A Destination Wedding Experience in Cancun
Mexico has long been a favorite destination for couples looking to tie the knot in a picturesque and culturally rich setting. From breathtaking beaches to vibrant traditions, this country offers endless possibilities for creating unforgettable memories.
We recently had the pleasure of capturing Alexis and Christian's dream wedding at the Grand Moon Palace in Cancun, and it was an experience we’ll never forget.
Here's a look at their magical day and tips for planning your own destination wedding in Mexico.
A Grand Affair at the Grand Moon Palace
Alexis and Christian, a fun and adventurous couple from New York City, decided to host their wedding at the Grand Moon Palace, an all-inclusive resort that’s tailor-made for celebrations of love and laughter. The resort is renowned for its exceptional amenities, and it’s clear why it’s a top choice for destination weddings. Every guest room is equipped with a luxurious hot tub (yes, every single one! us too !), and the staff ensures every detail is handled with care and a smile. This expansive resort is not only breathtakingly beautiful, but it’s also meticulously designed to cater to weddings of all sizes. From the moment we arrived, we were blown away by the attention to detail and the range of amenities offered.
The wedding ceremony took place on the beach, with the ocean providing a stunning and serene backdrop. Guests zipped around the sprawling resort in golf carts—a playful and practical touch that added to the festive vibes. The cloudy weather that day didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits; in fact, it brought a soft, romantic ambiance to the celebration.
The theme was pink—think vibrant pink flowers everywhere, elegant pink bridesmaid dresses, and a sea of smiles. It was a visually striking celebration filled with warmth, laughter, and pure joy.
Capturing Moments to Last a Lifetime
As their wedding photographers and videographers, we embraced every moment of this beautiful celebration. The overcast skies gave us soft, diffused light that added a dreamy quality to the beach photos. Alexis and Christian’s chemistry shone brightly, and their love made every shot feel effortless. To add even more magic, we did a day-after photo session under clearer skies, capturing their newlywed glow in all its glory. The mix of romantic beach shots and fun candids truly told the story of their unforgettable wedding weekend.
When Alexis and Christian reached out to us from New York City, they had one goal in mind: to create a wedding celebration that combined love, adventure, and unforgettable experiences for their closest friends and family.
A Beachfront Ceremony with a Pink Palette
Alexis and Christian chose the beach as the setting for their vows, and the result was nothing short of breathtaking. With the ocean as a backdrop and a light breeze adding a touch of drama to the atmosphere, the scene was set for an unforgettable ceremony. The couple’s wedding theme was pink, and the vibrant color was everywhere—from the stunning floral arrangements to the bridesmaids’ dresses. The cohesive palette added a pop of brightness to the natural surroundings and gave the event a playful yet elegant vibe.
Despite the overcast skies, the ceremony radiated warmth and joy. The soft, diffused light created by the clouds turned out to be perfect for photography, giving the images a dreamy and romantic quality. Alexis and Christian’s love for each other shone through every moment, and capturing their smiles and happy tears was a privilege.
Day-After Photos and a Touch of Sunshine
While the wedding day itself was cloudy, we planned a day-after photo session to take full advantage of Cancun’s sunny skies. This allowed us to create a diverse gallery of images that showcased both the moody, romantic atmosphere of the wedding day and the vibrant, sunlit beauty of the beach. Alexis and Christian were naturals in front of the camera, and their chemistry made every shot feel effortless and authentic.
Six Days of Celebration and Adventure
Alexis and Christian’s wedding wasn’t just a one-day event; it was a week-long celebration that brought their loved ones closer together. Guests traveled to Cancun for six days of fun, relaxation, and adventure. The itinerary included pool parties, a boat trip, water sports, and an excursion to explore ancient pyramids. Each activity added a unique layer to the celebration, ensuring that everyone had the time of their lives.
The boat trip, in particular, was a highlight for many guests. With the turquoise waters of the Caribbean surrounding us, it felt like we were in paradise. The group’s energy was infectious, and we captured candid moments of laughter, dancing, and pure joy.
The excursion to the pyramids added a cultural element to the festivities, allowing guests to connect with Mexico’s rich history. Walking among ancient ruins was awe-inspiring, and it was incredible to see how much everyone appreciated this unique experience.
A Week of Celebration and Adventure
This wedding was so much more than a single day—it was a week-long fiesta!
Alexis and Christian’s family and friends joined them for six incredible days in Cancun, packed with pool parties, a breezy boat trip, an awe-inspiring excursion to ancient pyramids, and adrenaline-pumping water sports. It was a non-stop celebration of love, laughter, and connection.

Exploring Mexico After the Wedding
Once the wedding festivities concluded, we stayed on in Mexico to soak up more of this vibrant country. One of the highlights of our post-wedding travels was a visit to Teotihuacan in Puebla. The grandeur of the ancient pyramids took our breath away, and the bustling mercado nearby provided a feast for our senses. From colorful textiles to delicious local dishes, the mercado was a vibrant celebration of Mexican culture.
Another memorable moment was witnessing the Voladores de Papantla performance in Cholula. This traditional ritual, where performers spin gracefully from a tall pole, was mesmerizing. For our photographer Maria, this part of the trip held special significance. Having lived in Cholula for years, she was thrilled to revisit her roots and share the experience with our team.
Tips for Planning a Destination Wedding in Mexico
If you’re considering a destination wedding in Mexico, here are some tips to ensure it’s as amazing as Alexis and Christian’s celebration:
Choose the Right Venue: Opt for a resort like the Grand Moon Palace that specializes in weddings and offers comprehensive packages to simplify planning.
Visit Ahead of Time: If possible, visit the venue in advance to familiarize yourself with the layout and meet with the wedding coordinator.
Embrace the Weather: Don’t let a cloudy day faze you! Overcast skies can create stunning photo opportunities, and it’s always good to have a backup plan for outdoor ceremonies.
Involve Your Guests: Plan group activities to make the trip enjoyable for everyone. Excursions, poolside parties, and themed events add to the fun.
Extend the Experience: Consider staying a few extra days to explore Mexico’s rich history and culture. From ancient ruins to vibrant markets, there’s so much to see and do.
